In the heart of the San Buenaventura valley we have Organic Gardens, uniquely designed, fully furnished and equipped houses and suites for two, four and six guests, and single and double rooms.
The valley of San Buenaventura has seen tremendous transformations from an ancient Mayan village at the end of the 1700s to a sugarcane plantation in the mid-1800s to a coffee plantation in the early 20th Century and then, in 1989 the opening of Hotel San Buenaventura de Atitlán.
With roots in the Valley of San Buenaventura
Hotel San Buenaventura de Atitlán can be a hotel for one or several nights or extended stays in the San Buenaventura valley. It is located on the shores of Lake Atitlán, near the town of Panajachel, in the Guatemalan Highlands.
Atitlán has been judged by noted European travelers, to include Alexander von Humboldt and Aldous Huxley (author of the Brave New World) to be the most beautiful lake in the world. It is formed by a volcanic caldera and is the deepest lake in Central America. The lake is surrounded by picturesque volcanoes and deep escarpments. Its mile-high location provides an eternal spring-like climate. Its population is 95% traditional Mayan with a vibrant, friendly and colorful culture.
The San Buenaventura Valley is home to several resort hotels and a Nature Reserve. Two of the valley's most important features is our coffee grove and forest. The forest is a natural habitat for a large variety of native and migratory birds. Bird watching guests have free access to our network of private wooded trails. The adjacent nature reserve is open to the general public and features signed nature trails, a butterfly sanctuary, hanging bridges that cross picturesque ravines and zip lines that traverses the natural forest canopy.
Our hotel has uniquely designed houses which are fully furnished and equipped to lodge up to six guests comfortably. We also offer suites for two to four, and single and double rooms. While we have fixed daily rates, we have special prices for extended stays and frequently offer seasonal specials.
Our facilities include a bar and restaurant, pool, Mayan sauna or “TUJ”, Jacuzzi and areas to rest and relax at our private sand beach. You can rent a bicycle in town to ride on roads and trails in the old Hacienda San Buenaventura. At the front desk you can rent kayaks kept on the beach. We can also arrange for boat services so you can visit the Mayan towns around the lake.
Other services: We offer a full range of tourist services. We are adjacent to Panajachel, which has banking, shopping, live entertainment and other tourist attractions.
Our ever Spring-like weather is especially attractive to groups in northern climates seeking respite from harsh winters.
